Randy Couture VS Minotauro NogueiraRandy Couture VS Minotauro Nogueira
Before the fight, Randy Couture, a constant fan favorite, said he was in a great place emotionally for this fight. Minotauro Nogueira noted that he was ready and had been waiting for years for this fight to happen. As the fight began, Nogueira, with the obvious reach advantage, was able to keep Couture at bay. Randy continued through, eating the punches. When Couture was able to shoot in, Nogueira took him down and mostly pounded Randy from several different guards. At one point during the fight, Randy was hit so hard it looked like the fight was over. His knees buckled and he fell, Noguiera pounced on Couture but Couture was able to come back and protected himself. Nogueira completely dominated the fight from start to finish. Couture took a hard loss in this fight but should he decide to fight again, his amazing fans will surely be there to support him. And now, Nogueria steps one step closer to fighting Lesnar.
Spider Sylva and Forrest GriffinAnderson Silva VS Forrest Griffin:
Forrest Griffin, the ex-light heavyweight champion, known to be as durable as they come, fought the arguably pound-for-pound best fighter in the world: Anderson Silva, who came up from the middle weights to show he can play with the big boys, once again.
Forrest Griffin, always an impressive site, came into this fight looking exceptionally fit. Silva looked to be in fantastic shape as well. Griffin is an aggressive fighter and tends to come straight toward his opponent. Silva must love Griffin’s style as Silva is an impressive counter striker.
In this fight, as Griffin sent each barrage of punches toward Silva, Silva answered him with quick, explosive hits. Quickly into the fight, one of Silva’s counter strikes knocked Griffin to the floor. Silva wanted it back up and even looked at Griffin in such a way as if to say, “Do you want a hand up?” Forrest was stunned early by that punch and it stayed with him. Silva grabbed a right round-kick from Griffin and almost ended it right there. Forrest came back with a flurry of punches that sent Silva moving backwards. As Silva moved backwards he threw a right jab that ended the fight in the fourth minute. Forrest landed on his back and waived his arms prompting the referee to stop the fight.
It appeared to me that either Silva has more speed and power behind his punches than anyone realizes or that Griffin had quit before he started. It was that fast. Once again, Silva showed why he is arguably the top fighter in the world. Silva looked like a guy who not only technically knew what to do but how to win by psychological advantage.
Now who does he fight? He doesn’t want to fight friend Machida the light heavyweight champion. Are we thinking Roy Jones Jr.? Hmmm . . . can you imagine Roy defending a leg kick? You think his mind of fighting is open to the gamut of head to toe fighting let alone the ground. I say let’s do it and watch him see the difference in fighting vs. boxing. Gotta love the fight!
